JAKARTA - Omoda E5, Chery's inaugural electric vehicle (EV) in Indonesia, officially started its production period on December 2 and plans to be launched in 2024.

There is something special about this model because it attracted the interest of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto.

Airlangga decided to order the 12 SUV units through his special staff. This is of course in line with the Government of Indonesia's program to accelerate EV development and reduce carbon emissions.

"This is not only real support for Chery in Indonesia, but also the support of the Indonesian government for the development of green technology vehicles," said Harry Kamora, vice president of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), in a statement received by VOI, Friday, December 8.

The production of Omoda E5 is running according to the planned time to be able to meet the distribution schedule for the customers to be carried out in Q1 2024. The Pondok Ungu factory is equipped with advanced technology that supports the production process from Omoda E5.

Thus, for the first time the model will be assembled in a factory in Southeast Asia and the production of Chery's first EV assembled outside China.

Since marking his debut in the country at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in August, pre-booking orders for this model have reached 400 units. The SUV will be equipped by batteries that make cars travel with a range of up to 450 km supported by electric motors measuring 150 kW and torques up to 340 Nm.

This car also has the highest five-star safety standard from Euro NCAP, which ensures Chery has the best quality vehicles for the Indonesian market.
