JAKARTA - The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has just won the Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). However, apart from the Ioniq 6, there are two other models that also won similar prestigious awards. Both the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 and Lexus RZ 450e models have also proven themselves to be serious competitors when it comes to safety.

In a rigorous assessment process, the IIHS examines a number of key factors, including a vehicle's ability to protect its occupants in the event of a crash, its ability to avoid incidents, and the extent to which safety technology is well integrated.

These cars must achieve top ratings in the driver's, passenger's and updated side small overlap tests to be eligible for the Top Safety Pick+ award. However, that wasn't enough. Emphasis is also placed on the quality of the headlights and the extent to which the frontal collision prevention system is effective, both in day and night lighting conditions, including situations involving pedestrians.

The IIHS gives all three models high marks. The Genesis Electrified GV70 earned an "Advanced" designation in frontal crash and pedestrian protection tests. Meanwhile, the Lexus RZ 450e and Hyundai Ioniq 6 received a "Superior" rating. In fact, according to the IIHS, the Genesis Electrified GV70 has a headlight system that is superior to its two competitors.

What's striking is that all three electric cars earned top ratings in the driver-side small overlap test. All this is possible thanks to a well-planned design, harmoniously connected to various vehicle components such as the door frame, steering wheel and instrument panel, after passing rigorous crash tests.

"All three vehicles have a standard front collision prevention system designed to protect pedestrians both during the day and at night when the most fatal pedestrian accidents occur," said IIHS President, David Harkey, on the company's official website.
