Baseball Opens The XX National Sports Week Series In Jayapura Regency

JAKARTA - The Marthen Indey baseball stadium, located in the Indonesian Air Force complex, will host the first match of the XX 2021 National Sports Week (PON) in Jayapura Regency, Thursday, September 23. This first match brought together Banten and West Java.

The opening of the first match in Jayapura Regency was attended by the General Chairperson of the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano Norman, Jayapura Regent Matthew Awoitauw, Danlanud Silas Papare Budhi Achmadi, Chairman of the Jayapura Regency Cluster Panwasrah Heru Suryono.

"Today we start the first game of baseball in this magnificent stadium, at Silas Papare Air Base," said Marciano Norman, quoted from the official KONI Central website.

"We have seen seven teams that are ready to compete, they are the team that passed the PON pre-qualification and they are the best team in Indonesia," explained Marciano.

Meanwhile, Jayapura regent Matius Awoitauw was honored for holding the match at this international standard venue. He emphasized that Papua upholds sportsmanship, brotherhood, and achievement.

“Papua Land of Peace, enjoy the peace during the XX PON. There is no doubt to compete," he said.
