Chelsea Make Morgan Rogers the Most Expensive English Player

Chelsea broke the club's transfer record when they bought winger Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. Chelsea spent up to 117 million pounds or around Rp2.8 trillion which made Rogers the most expensive English player in the Premier League.

Chelsea immediately made a splash shortly after the 2026 World Cup ended. Rogers who had just returned from the United States and helped lead England to third place had immediately left Villa. He headed to London for a medical on Monday and then joined Chelsea.

Rogers, who ranks as the second most expensive, has a contract for six years. Chelsea also has a one-year option for Rogers.

Villa himself confirmed that Rogers had officially left the club. Previously, Villa had also let go of Youri Tielemans who was bought by Manchester United.

"Aston Villa confirms Morgan Rogers has moved on a permanent basis to Chelsea. Since joining from Middlesbrough in 2024, the midfielder has shown great progress. He helped Villa win the Europa League and scored the third goal in the final in Istanbul," the club's official statement read.

Rogers showed consistency in the national team and club. He got the full trust of manager Thomas Tuchel in the fight for third place against France. Rogers has played seven times in the World Cup and scored two assists.

His performances at the club have also been impressive. The winger, who can also be positioned as an attacking midfielder, scored 14 goals and made 12 assists in various competitions during Unai Emery's tenure.
