Indonesian Cliff Climbing Wins Gold in Speed at the Chamonix World Climbing Series

JAKARTA - The Indonesian rock climbing team managed to win a gold medal in the individual speed event at the World Climbing Series Chamonix which took place in France.

The peak of the tournament was held on Sunday, July 12, 2026. In addition to bringing home two gold medals, the Indonesian delegation also managed to win one silver medal in the men's individual speed.

The gold medal for Indonesia was presented by Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi and Veddriq Leonardo. Meanwhile, one silver medal for the men's individual speed was presented by Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi.

Desak Made admitted that he was very happy with this victory. He said that his performance in the final was very good and enjoyed the race very much.

"I am very happy to win this gold medal for my country and my team. In my mind, I always say let's do our best," he said in an official statement received.

Desak Made's performance was very stable to secure his first victory in the Chamonix series. This gold medal was even sweeter because in Krakow, Poland, he also managed to bring home the gold medal.

In the final round of the gold race, Desak Made faced Italian athlete Giulia Randi. The athlete from Bali was the best and managed to get a time of 6.22 seconds, ahead of Giulia Randi who recorded a time of 6.51 seconds.

The bronze medal from the women's sprint was won by Capucine Viglione from France. He faced Isis Rothfork from the United States and ended the race with a time of 6.41 seconds, while his opponent was 6.53 seconds.

Meanwhile, Veddriq won the race against his compatriot Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi in the gold race. The Olympic gold medalist got a time of 4.89 seconds, while Robby got 5.11 seconds.

The bronze medal was won by the Japanese athlete, Ryo Omasa, after running the Chinese athlete, Yicheng Zhao. Ryo Omasa was narrowly ahead with a time of 4.701 seconds over his opponent Yicheng Zhao who closed the race with a time of 4.704 seconds.

Veddriq admitted that he was happy to finally win his first gold medal after carving out success at the Olympics. He also thanked all Indonesian people and the team for their support was very meaningful.

"I feel very grateful, especially this is my first gold medal after the Olympics. Thank you for your support. I tried my best and this is a real achievement. I am very grateful for this achievement," he said.
