Marco Bezzecchi Needs to Improve Sprint Race Performance MotoGP 2026

JAKARTA - MotoGP 2026 standings leader Marco Bezzecchi needs a brilliant performance in this season's Sprint Race to become a formidable racer in the hunt for the world championship title of the most prestigious motorcycle racing event.

Aprilia Racing CEO, Massimo Rivola, said that Bezzecchi needed to minimize his mistakes in the Sprint Race so that he could score a lot of points in one race series.

"Marco Bezzecchi performed perfectly again on Sunday so we just need to improve on Saturday," said Rivola after the United States MotoGP, as reported by Crash.

Bezzecchi has a perfect score of 75 points in the main race of the three series that have taken place. The result led him to the top of the standings this season.

However, the situation is very different from the Sprint race held on Saturday. The Italian racer only sits in 10th place in the Sprint Race standings.

He was only able to score six out of 36 points that could be achieved in the Sprint Race so far after finishing fourth in Brazil. Meanwhile, in the other two races in Buriram and the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), he failed because he fell.

"He was the mainstay in the race on Sunday, but once he was also the mainstay on Saturday, it must have been very scary," said Rivola.

Currently, Jorge Martin - Bezzecchi's teammate at Aprilia - is still the best rider in the Sprint Race. He leads the standings with a collection of 24 points after successfully climbing the first podium of the Sprint Race at COTA.

The second position was occupied by defending champion Marc Marquez who collected 21 points. He managed to finish second in the opening series in Thailand and then won the Sprint Race in the Brazilian MotoGP.
