JAKARTA - The Central Management of the Indonesian Sambo Association (PP Persambi) plans to hold a National Congress (Munas) to choose the new management structure for the 2026-2030 period in April 2026.
Secretary General (Sekjen) of the PP Persambi, Arnold Silalahi, said that before the National Congress, they would first hold a national working meeting which would take place online this month.
"The management of the PP Persambi will end on January 31. We have sent a letter for an extension until April," said Arnold when met in Jakarta.
The National Congress is likely to be held in the first or second week of April 2026. Currently, the PP Persambi is still waiting for an extension letter from the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Center.
Arnold said that the PP Persambi has a number of busy agendas in the calendar this year. In addition to the two events above, they also plan to hold the National Sambo Championship (Kejurnas) in May 2026 in Jakarta.
"This is a participant from all provinces and regencies/cities throughout Indonesia. So, it is open," he said.
In addition, Persambi is also ready to hold an international event involving universities from around the world. The tournament is held with the aim of promoting sambo sport at the student level.
Arnold hopes that the implementation can encourage sambo to become one of the important sports on campus so that it can quickly boost Indonesian sambo in the eyes of the international community.
"So, it is the same as other sports that were first in Indonesia, especially the results from the junior world championships yesterday, many of the athletes are students," he said.
Another event that is no less important that will be attended by the PP Persambi is the Asian Championship and the World Championship which will take place in Greece at the end of the year.
