The Indonesian Women's National Team Must Win In The Last Match Of The 2025 SEA Games Group To Qualify For The Following Round

The Indonesian Women's National Team suffered a crushing defeat against Thailand in the inaugural match of the 2025 SEA Games group (doc. Indonesian national team).

JAKARTA - The initial journey of the Indonesian Women's National Team at the 2025 SEA Games is difficult. The reason is, when they met Thailand in the inaugural match of the group phase, Garuda Pertiwi lost with a landslide score of 0-8.

After the inaugural Group A match at the Chonburi Stadium, Thursday, December 4, 2025, WIB night, coach Akira Higashiyama assessed that his directive team had tried to perform optimally, but had to recognize the quality of the opponent.

"Thailand is a very strong team. We have tried our best, but still lost. This is the reality. We have to accept this result," Akira was quoted as saying on Friday, December 5, 2025.

Although the results in the inaugural match are far from expectations, Indonesia still has the opportunity to continue to the next phase. The Garuda Pertiwi squad will determine their fate in the second match against Singapore which will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Ahead of the second match, Akira emphasized that the team remained focused and tried to maximize recovery time and evaluation.

"Right now our situation is quite difficult. If we can win against Singapore, we can still qualify. So, we will try our best," he said.

Akira also gave a special message to supporters who continued to accompany the steps of the Indonesian Women's National Team at the 2025 SEA Games.

"The defeat is still a defeat, this is my responsibility. However, we still have two days to get to the next match. I will try my best, with prayer. We want to give victory to Indonesian supporters," said the coach.
