Kemenpora Improves Athlete LPDP Scholarships, Ready To Enter A Bachelor's Program

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) plans to include undergraduate programs when making improvements to scholarships for Education Fund Management Institutions (LPDP) for athletes.

The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, said that the LPDP program is a form of the presence and support of the state in ensuring the welfare and future of national sports people.

"So far, it has only been for S2 (magic) and S3 (doctor). Not yet the undergraduate (graduate). This will be improved," said Erick after a working visit to the Central KONI Office on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

Improvements to the long-term program for the foundation of the national sports ecosystem and ensuring the sustainability of the welfare of these sports people have received approval from President Prabowo Subianto.

Erick said that scholarships aimed at building human resources in the field of youth and sports should also be given from a lower level.

"We want not only a bachelor's degree, but only from junior high school because the athlete's preparation should be early," said Erick Thohir.

Regarding the development of the athletes' resources, it will also be discussed in the Indonesia Sport Summit which will take place at the weekend. At the event, the relevant ministries will attend to discuss student athlete events.

The LPDP scholarship program for athletes was previously launched in July 2025 to provide opportunities for active athletes, former athletes, and professionals in the field of sports to pursue master and doctoral education, both at home and abroad.

The purpose of the scholarship was as a provision for former athletes after they were no longer actively competing, which was designed as an instrument for transformation mobilization.

In addition to preparing programs for S1, the Ministry of Youth and Sports also encourages the presence of sports schools throughout Indonesia. This initiative is part of the Government's long-term vision in forming a superior generation through a sports-based education approach, from upstream to downstream.
