Florian Wirtz's Quality Is No Longer Doubtful

JAKARTA - Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister said he had no doubts about the quality of his teammate, Florian Wirtz, following his impressive 2-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

Liverpool returned to winning ways at London Stadium, with Wirtz arguably showing their best form since joining a 100 million initial transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

The 22-year-old has been heavily criticized for his slow performance in the Premier League and has yet to score or assist in the competition.

However, Mac Allister believes it's only a matter of time before he starts showing his best form.

"I don't think there's any doubt about the quality. What he can do in a narrow space is incredible. He did it against West Ham."

"As I said before, I think his performance is very good and hopefully he can continue like this," said the Argentine.

Mac Allister also praised striker Alexander Isak, who scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool. The 26-year-old striker has struggled to find his form and fitness since joining Newcastle United's 125 million pounds on the last day of the transfer market.

However, Mac Allister believes he is starting to find his best at Anfield.

"Very happy for him. I think he's an amazing player, we all know that. I joked with him because he didn't even smile when he scored."

"I'm very happy that he deserved it, so did Florian. I think he played very well. He played very well."

"So it's important for them to reach their level. (Isak) is very quiet. Sometimes he likes to be alone. You can see I always try to talk to him because he's pretty good at Spanish."

"But, yes, he's a quiet person and we're all happy he's here," Mac Allister said.

Liverpool's win last weekend brought them up to eighth in the 2025/2026 Premier League standings, ending a streak of three consecutive defeats in all competitions.

Mac Allister hopes the result against West Ham can provide a boost ahead of a string of solid matches.

"Hopefully. That's the goal. But, to be honest, I think (against West Ham) we don't see the team we really want."

"I think we can do more, especially in defense. However, yes, we have to keep working hard and now the focus is on Wednesday (Thursday, December 4, 2025, early morning WI). Hopefully we can win at home," said Mac Allister again.

Meanwhile, Mac Allister is a little pessimistic that Liverpool could compete in the Premier League title race this season.

"No, it's difficult. I think Arsenal are very strong this season. They deserve it because they are a very good team and Manchester City are around them."

"However, for us, this is not about the title race. For us, it's about getting points and playing the football we can," he said.
