JAKARTA Men's singles badminton player Alwi Farhan managed to beat Prannoy HS from India to reach the quarter-finals of the 2025 Australian Open.
Alwi secured the first ticket for the last eight for Indonesia after going through a 42-minute match which ended with a score of 21-19 and 21-10 in Sydney on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
This is Alwi's first match in the Super 500 BWF level tournament. He previously in the first round won the walkover (WO) because his opponent withdrew due to injury.
"Alhamdulillah, today I was able to win. Indeed, yesterday I was able to play and try the field for adaptation, but the opponent resigned. So, it was quite happy to be able to go straight into the match earlier," said Alwi.

Alwi faced a fierce match in the first game. He trailed 0-3 and fought desperately for just one point ahead at the interval.
Prannoy gave a fierce resistance after that. He got up and took the 19-18 lead, but instead Alwi got the momentum with three consecutive points.
"In the second game, I was also left behind at the beginning, but after that I was able to turn things around. The coach also always reminded me not to worry. Victory is a pretty good capital for tomorrow," said Alwi.
The 2023 junior world champion is the only Indonesian men's singles left in Australia. He came with Jonatan Christie and Yohanes Saut Marcellyno, who were eliminated early in the first half.
Alwi will next face a tough challenge as he meets first seed Chou Tien Chen (China Taipei), who defeated deputy host Aser Jing Jie Ooi.
