JAKARTA Israel responded with pleasure to the decision from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to cut off dialogue with Indonesia which rejected their athletes from competing in the 2025 Gymnastics World Championships.
The IOC in its latest official statement recommends that international federations not hold important sporting events in Indonesia until the country is open to accepting all contingents.
The IOC Executive Board in its statement said that Indonesia's stance against Israeli athletes to participate in the 2025 53rd World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta had violated the Olympic Charter.
"These actions rob athletes of the right to compete peacefully and prevent the Olympic Movement from demonstrating the strength of the sport," the IOC wrote in a statement on their official website.

There are at least four important points made by the IOC Executive Board in an online meeting this week. In addition to recommendations to international federations and cutting off dialogue, they will also summon Indonesia and the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
The president of the Israeli Olympic Committee, Yael Arad, welcomed the attitude of the IOC. He said that this was a firm message of Indonesia's disgraceful behavior.
"Global sports are built on rules, values, and an absolute commitment to equality and fair play."
"Israeli athletes will continue to stand proud on the world's biggest stages, showing excellence and integrity," he said.
Arad also expressed his gratitude to the IOC President, Kirsty Coventry, for his leadership in dealing with efforts to maximize sports.
"His clear and principled attitude in defending justice and basic decency strengthens the foundations of international sports," he said.
Indonesia is trying to host several important events in the years to come. Two of them are the 2030 Youth Olympic and the 2036 Summer Olympics.
With this IOC attitude, Indonesia's ambition to host the two important events is likely to be rather difficult to realize.
