Staying Involved In The Position Of Chairman Of PSSI And Menpora, Erick Thohir Affirms Commitment To National Football

PSSI chairman Erick Thohir does not want any more general chairman elections in the middle of the road for the management period (doc. Kemenpora).

JAKARTA - Erick Thohir will still serve as Chairman (Ketum) of PSSI even though he is now also carrying out his duties as Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora).

He is committed to completing his tenure until 2027 in order to continue the national football roadmap (blueprint).

"I will maintain my presence until 2027. After that, please make an election. However, don't always set back (backs)," said Erick Thohir in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Erick Thohir highlighted the pattern of changing PSSI administrators in the 2015'2022 period, which often occurs in the middle of the working period. According to him, this will actually be detrimental and disrupt the football development program.

"All changes to the management occurred in the middle of time, when there was already a blueprint that would be carried out."

"Who lost? Yes, everyone. So, that doesn't mean I maintain legitimacy, no. We finish my job," he said.

Erick added that his attitude was not a form of personal ambition. He emphasized that he still respects FIFA rules that allow someone to serve as General Chair for up to three terms.

"If I reach 2027, only once. FIFA rules can be three times. That means I respect it. So, I'm not the head of the stone. Raising power, 'I can do this three times. This is just one time, I want to finish it," he said.

Apart from leadership matters, Erick also mentioned funding for PSSI. He admitted that he had communicated with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to ensure that organizational financial governance remained accountable.

"Of course, for PSSI we cannot get funding from the Government, especially for single events."

"However, what kind of multi-events will be checked for clearance. If there are multi-events, all sports can be obtained. So, I am a bit careful. There will be several decisions. We will maintain this trust," said Erick.

Erick further emphasized that his main responsibility at this time is to build a national sports ecosystem as a whole.

"Today, my most important task is for Indonesian sports. PSSI is only one of them," he said.
