Erick Thohir First Focus On Sports Transformation And Youth Empowerment

Erick Thohir will focus on transforming sports and empowering youth after serving as Menpora (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - Erick Thohir officially serves as Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) after being appointed by President Prabowo on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. At the beginning of his tenure, Erick Thohir revealed his initial plan.

Erick Thohir, who is also still the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, admitted that he is ready to carry out sports transformation and maximize youth empowerment to make it better.

"So, the number one thing is that I will definitely get an assignment by the President, of course I am a professional and of course as an assistant to the President I am upright where sometimes people forget about sports and youth. In fact, the Minister of Youth and Sports."

"This means that if we talk about the young man, there are 131 million youths who in the future this is the basis of our own nation."

"In the future, we must build this young man in a capability to be able to compete globally and love the country and must be part of building our nation in the future," said Erick Thohir in a statement on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Erick Thohir's transformation plan is directly proportional to the experience he has gone through. Prior to serving as PSSI General Chair for the 2023-2027 period, Erick Thohir had led PB Perbasi, the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), to become the Chief Executive of the 2018 Asian Games.

This experience is clearly a valuable asset for Erick Thohir to build professional governance, establish international partnerships, and present extraordinary achievements.

On the sports side, Erick is committed to expanding competition at the regional and central levels to support economic growth, creating jobs, as well as producing high competitive young talents.
