Djokovic Meets Alcaraz At The 2025 US Open Semifinals

JAKARTA Novak Djokovic created a blockbuster match in the semifinals of the US Open 2025 against Carlos Alcaraz after performing outstanding to beat American tennis player Taylor Fritz.

The fourth seed Fritz failed to win his first win in history clashing with Djokovic after losing with a score of 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, and 6-4 at Flushing Meadows, New York, United States, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, afternoon WIB.

"It's a very tight game. I think in most of the second and third sets that he's a better player," Djokovic said.

This result automatically made Djokovic extend his 11-0 win-loss record against Fritz who was runner-up last year, losing against Jannik Sinner in the final.

This is the 53rd Grand Slam semifinals in Djokovic's career, which is a record. This number includes the 14 wins he managed to get at Flushing Meadows.

Djokovic had to go through three match points to close the game, two of which resulted in a long rally. Fritz then made a double mistake at the last match point which made him eliminated.

The 27-year-old's defeat automatically made the United States men's singles title drought in all Grand Slams continue since Andy Roddick won the US Open in 2003.

"In the end, that's one of the things that keeps great players great because they managed to win important points," said Fritz.

Djokovic will then have to try to overcome the second seed Alcaraz if he wants to reach the final and continue his efforts to achieve a record 25th Grand Slam single title in his career.

Alcaraz from Spain, 16 years younger than Djokovic, managed to qualify for the last four after winning 6-4, 6-2, and 6-4 over Czech Republic tennis player Jiri Lehecka.

This is the ninth clash between Djokovic and Alcaraz. In the previous eight clashes, Djokovic had a 5-3 win-loss record, including a win in the 2024 Olympics final in Paris.
