Gerald Vanenburg Reveals Indonesia U-23 Target In 2026 U-23 Asian Cup Qualification

Gerald Vanenburg is targeted to bring the U-23 Indonesian national team to the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup finals (doc. Indonesian national team).

JAKARTA - Indonesia U-23 National Team Coach, Gerald Vanenburg, revealed the target installed by PSSI for the team in the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup Qualification.

Vanenburg admitted that PSSI is targeting the coach to bring Garuda Muda through to the 2026 Asian Cup finals which will take place in Saudi Arabia on 7-25 February 2026.

"Of course the target given is to win this match, win this tournament. However, the most important thing right now is that we don't care who our opponents are."

"To be sure, we have to be ready to play against Laos, face Macau, and then South Korea, yes."

"So, the team that has been chosen together is a very good team that has been prepared," said Gerald Vanenburg in a statement at a press conference ahead of the match on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

In the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup Qualification, the U-23 Indonesian national team is in Group J with Laos, Macau, and South Korea. All of these matches will be held at the Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo, East Java.

Laos will be Indonesia U-23's first opponent in the match which will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Three days later, Kadek Arel and colleagues will meet Macau before facing South Korea on September 9, 2025.

Ahead of the match, Vanenburg emphasized his optimism for the Garuda Muda Squad. He also asked his team to give the best performance for maximum results.

"Whatever happens we have to be able to win every game and level up players. Everyone has to give their best on the pitch and then we will see where we will be at the end of this tournament," Vanenburg said.
