Asian Boxing Sends Clarification And Legitimization Of Perbati

JAKARTA The President of Asian Boxing, Fitchai Chunhavajira, apologized to the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Boxing Executive Board (Perbati), Ray Zulham Farhas Nugraho, for his mistake in a letter dated September 1, 2025 regarding the President of the Indonesian Boxing Federation.

The apology was conveyed through the latest letter received on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. In the previous letter, Chunhavajira mistakenly referred to Dr. Hillary Brigitta Lasut as President of the Indonesian Boxing Federation.

In the apology letter, Chunhavajira at the same time emphasized that Perbati is the official body recognized as the leader of the amateur boxing in Indonesia by Asian Boxing.

"We regret this negligence and respectfully request that this correction be recorded properly. Asian Boxing remains committed to working with Perbati," the letter reads.

Based on the Asian Boxing letter, Perbati emphasized that Asian Boxing's letter dated September 1, 2025, which stated that the leadership of the Indonesian amateur boxing organization was an editorial error.

Perbati in uploads on Instagram has officially reiterated that they are the only parent organization of the official amateur boxing organization in Indonesia which is recognized nationally by the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) and internationally (Asian Boxing and World Boxing).

"We emphasize that international sports governance must be upheld. Every organization or party acting on behalf of itself outside the official and legitimate structure can be subject to a strong warning to strict sanctions in accordance with international sports regulations," Perbati wrote.

Perbati together with Asian Boxing are committed to maintaining integrity, good governance, and the future of Indonesian boxing in the umbrella of a legitimate organization.

The Executive Committee of NOC Indonesia, Jadi Rajaguguguguk, requested that all parties recognize the existence of Perbati as a national federation (NF) affiliated with the international federation (IF), namely World Boxing which is officially a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

"There is only one national federation, namely a national federation affiliated with international federations and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)," he said.

The support of Asian Boxing and World Boxing for Perbati is supported by the Technical Hand Book (THB) for the 2025 Thailand SEA Games at the end of this year.

In the THB, the names of the President of Word Boxing (WB), Boris van der Vorst, and the President of the Asian Boxing and President of the Thailand Boxing Association (TBA), Pitchai Chunhavajira are listed.

Furthermore, the THB contains that boxing will compete for 17 gold medals by competing in nine men's classes and eight women's classes.

Boxing sports will be held at the Thailand International Training Center, Bangkok, Thailand, on December 10-19, 2025.

In addition to Thailand, Perbati can also send Indonesian boxers to appear at the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics qualifying round as well as the official Asian Boxing and World Boxing single event calendar.

Perbati will take responsibility for answering the tough challenges to be able to generate Indonesian amateur boxing, which has not sent representatives to the Olympics for 20 years since Bonyx Saweho in Athens 2004.

In its golden era, Indonesian boxing gave birth to names such as Ferry Moniaga, who is the 1980 Asian champion and fifth in the 1972 Munich Olympics and Frans Van Bronkhorst (Asian champion in Bangkok 1973).

In addition, there are Wiem Gommies (Golden medial Asian Games Bangkok 1970, Asian champion in Tehran 1971, gold medal in the 1978 Asian Games Bangkok), Pino Bahari (Beijing 1990 Asian Games gold medal), Albert Papilaya (quarter-finalist of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics), and La Paene Masara (four-finalists of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics).
