Anindya Bakrie's Happy Time As Oxford United Earned League One Playoff Berth

JAKARTA - Oxford United owner and young Indonesian businessman Anindya Novyan Bakrie appreciates the Oxford team who fought their way through the English League One playoffs for promotion to the second division of the Championship League.

"We are grateful that Oxford United can play brilliantly in the last game of the season. A convincing 4-0 win against Burton led the Yellows into the playoffs for the second time in two years," Anin said in an official statement reported Monday.

"Hopefully two games against Blackpool, can bring Oxford United back to Wembley for the play-off final," Anindya said.

League One England results for the 2020-2021 season or the 46th match ended dramatically, Sunday 9 May 2021. Four teams qualified for the playoffs: Blackpool FC, Sunderland AFC, Lincoln City, and Oxford United, now owned by Anindya Bakrie.

Oxford's success was not enough in the last game after beating Burton Albion 4-0. Nearest rivals Portsmouth FC defeated Accrington Stanley FC 0–1 at home.

The result saw Oxford United collect 74 points to finish sixth, while Portsmouth dropped to eighth with 72 points.

In fact Oxford and Charlton Athletic both collected 74 points, but Charlton lost the goal difference and had to settle for seventh place.

Two Hull City teams (ranked one) and Peterborough (ranked two) qualify automatically for the League Championship, while the 3-6 rankings have to go through to the playoffs to contest one promotion ticket to the Championship.

Third-placed Team Blackpool FC (80 points), fourth-placed Sunderland AFC (77 points), fifth-placed Lincoln City FC (77 points) and sixth-placed Oxford United FC (74 points).

At the Kassam Stadium, Oxford pressed the heart of Burton Albion's defence.

The first goal came in the 10th minute through Mide Shodipo's action, and in the 28th minute, Matty Taylor created the second goal which gave Oxford United a 2-0 lead until half-time.

In the second half, Oxford added two more goals to Elliot Lee's 57th-minute effort and Sam Winnal's 92nd-minute goal. Oxford United won 4-0.

In the semi-finals of the playoffs, Oxford United will challenge third-placed Blackpool FC in a home-and-away format. Oxford United will host Blackpool at the Kassam Stadium on 19 May 2021 and the second match of 22 May will be Blackpool's home game.

Lincoln City will face Sunderland AFC on May 30.

This isn't the first time Oxford have reached the playoffs since last season they also made it through to the same round but had to settle for fourth place.
