Ter Stegen Disbanded In Barcelona Training, Signal Will Go?

Barcelona goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, has been training alone since the club returned to pre-season on Sunday, July 13, 2025, amid continuing uncertainty about his future.

Barcelona's players underwent medical tests that day before Hansi Flick held a first-team training session on Monday, July 14, 2025.

The club informed that Ter Stegen trained alone at the fitness center. The German international player was again not involved in team training in the second training session on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

In addition to looking at the 2025/2026 season, the exercise is also a preparation for the Blaugrana which will fly to Asia next week for pre-season friendly matches in Japan and South Korea.

According to ESPN reports, it has not yet been decided whether Ter Stegen will participate in the squad or not.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper joined Barcelona in 2014 and has been the club's main goalkeeper since 2016, when Claudio Bravo was transferred to Manchester City.

However, his position in Barcelona's first team was evicted this summer after signing Joan Garcia from Espanyol for 25 million euros.

ESPN further said that the Blaugrana had invited Ter Stegen to leave, but so far he expressed his desire to stay.

Barcelona hopes he can change his stance after it is certain he will not play because he needs regular playing opportunities ahead of the 2026 World Cup next summer, where he hopes to become the main goalkeeper of the German National Team.

Barcelona's plan is to make Garcia the main goalkeeper coated by Wojciech Szczesny, who recently signed a new two-year contract.

Szczesny returned from retirement last summer to join Barcelona when Ter Stegen picked up a serious knee injury at the end of September 2024.

Ter Stegen returned in the final weeks of the 2024/2025 season, appearing twice, but Szczesny remains the main choice in important matches.

Garcia and Szczesny were both involved in Barcelona's training sessions this week, as did Inaki Pena.

Pena was previously Ter Stegen's coating player and initially replaced his position in the 2024/2025 season team before being replaced by Szczesny.

However, Pena is open to new challenges outside of Barcelona as she wants to play regularly.
