Thibaut Courtois: Trent Alexander-Arnold Is A Bad Dream For Goalkeepers

JAKARTA - Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was impressed by Trent Alexander-Arnold's extraordinary cross and described his new team-mate as a nightmare for goalkeepers.

The England defender provided his first assist for Real Madrid when he sent a perfect cross to Gonzalo Garcia which led to a single goal in victory over Juventus in the last 16 of the 2025 Club World Cup, Tuesday, July 2, 2025 WIB.

"He should have provided some assists in this tournament. During training, his shot was incredible, his free kick and his corner was at a different level."

"I've never seen anyone else who had the qualities he had in making kicks and crosss," Courtois said of the former Liverpool full-back.

Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid from Liverpool ahead of the tournament in the United States.

He has started all Real Madrid games at the 2025 Club World Cup so far, playing right-back and midfielder.

Courtois also admitted that he was trying to get used to Alexander-Arnold's style of play as he was likely to shift to a more advanced position.

"As a goalkeeper, it's sometimes like a nightmare. It keeps you alert and forces you to work hard to stop your opponent. It makes us develop," he said.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund in the 2025 Club World Cup quarter-finals, Sunday, July 6, 2025, early morning WIB, in New Jersey.

They have so far avoided facing Brazilian clubs at the 2025 Club World Cup, with Palmeiras and Fluminense still likely to be in the tournament.

"We who understand football never doubt their level (Brazil teams). If you believe in the four people who write on Twitter who think their level is bad, you're wrong."

"We, who understand football, know that the Brazilian teams are good. That is, the European teams are not the best."

"I'm sure that's how it is, their level is high and it's shown in every game."
