Real Madrid Hopes For Mbappe's Fitness In The 2025 Club World Cup

JAKARTA - Real Madrid coach, Xabi Alonso, is still unable to confirm whether Kylian Mbappe will be available to play in the knockout stages of the 2025 Club World Cup after missing third group matches.

Mbappe was hospitalized last week due to acute gastroenteritis and has not played a minute in a tournament held in the United States so far.

Despite returning to training, he did not even qualify as a substitute in a 3-0 win against RB Salzburg, Friday, June 27, 2025 WIB.

"I don't want to be pessimistic and prejudiced, but we need it because he is a top player, one of the best in the world. We hope he returns soon," Alonso said of Mbappe's availability for the last 16 match against Juventus on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 WIB.

Mbappe is one of the largest stars in the 2025 Club World Cup held in the United States. His absence was a blow to the tournament that FIFA President Gianni Infantino wanted to host, as one of the biggest events in football.

Infantino managed to get Lionel Messi into the tournament when Inter Miami was allowed in despite not winning the MLS Cup.

Not only that, he also encouraged the team to try to sign Cristiano Ronaldo during the specially created transfer window before the first match started this month.

Mbappe, along with Messi and Erling Haaland, is one of the main attractions. However, the news is limited to out-of-field problems.

In addition to his illness, he also made headlines this week when it was revealed that he had filed a case of moral harassment against his former Paris Saint-Germain club.

He was unhappy with the way he was treated by the 2024/2025 Champions League winner when he was ruled out after his decision not to extend his contract with PSG in 2023.

Mbappe also clashed with PSG, arguing there was a club debt of 55 million euros (61 million US dollars) in unpaid wages.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old was Real Madrid's top scorer last season, with 43 goals in 56 appearances.

He has attended special medical treatment to recover from gastroenteritis, but has been out of two games since being discharged from hospital.

"We need him. We want him back as soon as possible and in the best condition," said Alonso.
