Indonesia Open 2025: Putri KW Hajar Unggulan 8

Putri Kusuma Wardani secured tickets for the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open 2025 after defeating Thailand's singles (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani beat eighth seed Supanida Katethong from Thailand to reach the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open 2025.

The 22-year-old badminton player maintains the single hope of Indonesian women after going through matches of three games 17-21, 21-9, and 21-8 at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

The daughter, who is currently ranked 12th in the world, was overwhelmed by the opponent's game in the first game. He missed the game and won easily in the next two games.

"In the first game the opponent played very difficult. I tried to change my style of play by limiting the opponent's attack and finally succeeding," said Putri after the match.

This result made Putri managed to match the winning-loss record with Supanida to 2-2. Two of Putri's victories also occurred in their two latest clashes.

Another victory for Putri over Supanida occurred in the first round of the All England 2025 in March 2025. The two defeats he lost occurred at the Arctic Open and the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championship.

Putri KW will next meet Japanese badminton player Akane Yamaguchi. The former world number one went to the quarter-finals after overthrowing Chinese representative Taipei, Sung Shuo Yun.

"Facing Akane is certainly not easy. I have to be ready from the start and anticipate the attacks of opponents who have very good hitting accuracy," said Putri.

This Tangerang-born badminton player is the only Indonesian women's singles left in the tournament. He took part with Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, who had already lifted the suitcase in the first round.
