JAKARTA Indonesian badminton legend, Tan Joe Hok, died at the age of 87, as confirmed by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).

The national badminton parent in an official statement said that Tan Joe Hok passed away at 10.52 WIB, Monday, June 2, 2025. He breathed his last at Medistra Hospital, Jakarta.

"Indonesia has just lost its badminton legend, Tan Joe Hok," PBSI wrote in their official statement on social media X.

Tan Joe Hok alias Hendra Kartanegara was an Indonesian badminton player in the 1950s to 1960s.

He listed himself as the Indonesian first men's singles who climbed the highest podium at All England. The title was obtained in 1959 after winning over compatriot Ferry Sonnevile.

In addition, he also won the gold medal in the Asian Games in 1962. Another achievement was to get the first Thomas Cup for Indonesia in 1958.
