Sad News, Father Pencak Silat: Major General TNI Retired H. Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya Goes Forever

JAKARTA - Indonesian Sports Patriot, who was also the father of the World Pencak Silat Major General TNI Retired Dr.(HC) H. Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya passed away at 9:50 WIB on May 13, 2025 at Pondok Indah Hospital at the age of 93 years. The deceased, who is the former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta (1984-1987), has an extraordinary service in the sport of Pencak Silat which is genuine and the pride of Indonesia.

The plan is for the deceased to be buried in the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta, and buried in the Pencak Silat Padepokan, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah.

"As the Head of the Central KONI, I would like to express my deep condolences for the death of Mr. Major General TNI Retired H. Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya. May the late be accepted by Allah SWT's best, the family left behind will be given strength, and as a community, sports achievements can continue their struggle to develop Pencak Silat sports to the world level," said the Head of the Central KONI, Lt. Gen. Retired Marciano Norman.

The man who was born in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta on June 6, 1931, received the Central KONI award on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The head of the Central KONI, Lt. Gen. Retired TNI Marciano Norman, immediately handed him over to Eddie's residence. At that time, Eddie was touched by the tears of tears receiving the visit and the award.

Eddie's love for silat has been around for a long time. As one of the fighters who defended Indonesia's independence in the 1947 Dutch Military Aggression, Eddie became interested in the ability of other fighters' Pencak Silat in fighting the invaders. As a result, he became friends with the silat and embraced him.

The figure who had served as Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (PB.IPSI) 1981-2003 played an important role in efforts to make Pencak Silat recognized by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an intangible World Cultural Heritage. Thanks to his struggle, Pencak Silat was officially included in the UNESCO list on December 12, 2019 through the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage activities in Colombia. At that time Eddie carried out the mandate as the supervisor of the Road to UNESCO Silat Pencak Team and the 2014-2019 Olympics.

In 1980, Eddie formed the Inter-National Pencak Silat Alliance (Persilat). Several Pencak Silat organizations from other existing countries include the Singapore Silat Alliance (Persisi), the Malaysian National Silat Alliance (Pesaka) and envoys from Brunei Darusalam. In the year of the formation of Persilat, Eddie was elected President. After that, in 1987, Silat was competed at the SEA Games.

Silat competitions are also sought to be present in other countries. In 2008, Eddie initiated the Pencak Silat championship throughout Europe and he was appointed Father of the European Silat Pencak in Switzerland.
