Amorim Regrets Statement That Manchester United Is Worst In History

Ruben Amorim said that he regretted saying that his current Manchester United team was the worst in club history. He insisted on blaming himself, not his players.

Amoram made the comment after a 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday, January 9, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, ahead of the match against Rangers in the Europa League, the 39-year-old coach clarified his statement.

Even so, he still emphasized that if he did not admit that he had a significant problem in the team after seven defeats in 15 matches, then this was called misery.

"First of all, I want to talk about that. I talk more about myself than the players."

"I also said in the same response that I didn't help my players."

"If you look around every time I talk and every time you press the players isn't good enough, I never blame my players."

"So, I understand giving you that title and I sometimes feel frustrated. Sometimes I shouldn't say it that way, but that's how it is and that's it."

"Sometimes it was very difficult to hide the frustration at the time. However, the good thing is that I said the same thing in a different way in the dressing room five minutes earlier."

"The response was quite normal because I was very outspoken with my players," said Amorim.

Amorom changed his normal routine after losing to Brighton. He spoke to his players in the dressing room soon rather than waiting until the next day to provide an explanation.

There were reports that the former Sporting CP coach was so angry that he damaged TV.

"I'm still young and sometimes I make mistakes. That's why I don't (usual) speak after the game."

"This game, I need to talk and maybe it was a mistake. Then, I became more nervous."

"Go to the conference (pers) very nervously and say things I shouldn't have said, that's all. Sometimes I'm young and I make mistakes."

"I said the clear thing. If you want, I can talk about it and say different things."

"I told the players and I told you, I think it's a good thing to be really honest with you," said the Portuguese coach.

Manchester United will face Rangers in the seventh match of the Europa League, Friday, January 24, 2025, early morning WIB.
