Old Tafford's Future Will Be Determined In Summer

JAKARTA - Manchester United will make a decision in the summer whether it intends to rebuild Old Trafford or build a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 seats.

The Red Devils are expected to make the decision by the end of 2024, but the club said on Friday, January 17, 2024, local time that the final decision would be made before the end of this season.

In a statement, the club said the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force had completed its feasibility work.

They decided that Old Trafford could only be increased to 87,000 capacity through rebuilding. While the new arena can be much larger.

"The Manchester United vision is to build a world-class stadium, acting as a catalog for Trafford Park's wider regeneration."

"According to preliminary findings, it could provide a gross added value of 7.3 billion pounds for the British economy and more than 90,000 job opportunities," Manchester United said in a statement.

"The Task Force has decided that the rebuilt Old Trafford could increase the capacity of the existing stadium to 87,000. Meanwhile, the new stadium will allow capacity to reach 100,000."

"The two options are still under consideration, with the club set to decide on a preferred approach ahead of the summer."

Manchester United also reiterated its claim that the majority (52 percent) of fans support the option of newly built stadiums when surveyed.
