Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution Invites Citizens To Develop An Independent Mosque Program

MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution invited the community, especially Muslims in this area, to participate in developing an independent mosque program to restore the people's economy.

"The Medan City Government currently has an independent mosque program. Mosques are not only places of worship, but also play a role in restoring the people's economy and building civilization," said Bobby Nasution, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 29.

This was conveyed by Bobby Nasution after the Fajr Safari was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Medan DPRD Rajuddin Sagala, Chairman of the Medan MUI Hasan Maksum, Head of the Ministry of Religion of Medan Impun Siregar and related officials at the Asy Syafi'iyah Mosque in Medan.

The Mayor of Medan said that Medan City has 1,115 mosques. If all mosques run an independent mosque program, surely this area will be superior to other cities in Indonesia.

As is known, the Medan City Government has set 16 criteria for independent mosques, including having the legality of land or buildings, and having a business or cooperative in the mosque.

"Through this independent mosque, we have a strong foundation to support or run the wheel of life for the better, and keep up with the times," said Bobby Nasution.

The mayor of Medan also appreciated Asy Syafi'iyah's National Mosque Council (BKM), for implementing and running most of the independent mosque program.

"I would like to thank the efforts made by BKM Asy Syafi'iyah, related to the independent mosque program," said Bobby Nasution.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Asy Syafi'iyah BKM, Edy Sofyan, said that the Asy Syafi'iyah Mosque, which was established in 1997 until now, continues to grow to become an independent mosque, including the money from infaq and alms distributed to those who are entitled.

"Saving money in the bank is not something we are proud of, but how can that money be used for the prosperity of the mosque. Because we have the motto of prospering the mosque, the mosque will prosper the congregation," he said.

"The Asy Syafi'iyah Mosque also has activities to strengthen the sharia economy, especially for residents around the mosque, and other social activities that are in line with the independent mosque program," said Edy.
