Anticipating Falling Trees, East Jakarta Park Service Prunes 32,377 Trees

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta City Parks and Forests Sub-department (Sudin) has trimmed a number of trees. This measure was taken to anticipate fallen trees when it rained with strong winds.

It was recorded that from January to October 2021, at least 32,377 trees of all sizes were cut. The number of trees that were pruned were spread over 10 sub-districts in East Jakarta.

"The pruning of trees is to anticipate falling trees in the rainy season or when there is a strong wind," said Head of Forestry and Green Lines, East Jakarta City Parks and Forests Sub-department, Atang Setiawan when contacted by VOI, Friday, October 29.

He continued, pruning a number of large trees aims to lighten the burden of the tree so that it does not fall when hit by strong winds.

"In the meantime, we only carry out tree canning if there are complaints from the public, felling large and heavy trees if it is dangerous," he said.

According to him, there are three categories in tree pruning, namely light, medium and heavy pruning. Based on data from the East Jakarta City Forest and Parks Sub-Department, at least 3,213 trees were pruned in Cipayung District. Pasar Rebo Subdistrict has 2,856 trees and Makasar Subdistrict has 2,827 trees that have been pruned.

Then, during the last three months, tree pruning in East Jakarta has fluctuated. In August, 3,112 trees were pruned. In September there were 3,053 trees, and in October there were 2,529 trees.
