KM Liberty 1 Drowns In Bali Waters, 6 Survivors, 9 Others Still Wanted

The process of searching for the KM Liberty 1 crew who are still missing after the ship sank in the waters north of Bali (Basarnas Bali)

DENPASAR - Basarnas Bali is still looking for 9 crew members of the KM Liberty 1 ship that sank in the waters north of Bali.

The search was carried out by deploying the State SAR Ship Arjuna 229 with 17 crew members and 5 rescue teams.

Head of the Denpasar Class A Search and Rescue Office, Gede Darmada explained, KM Liberty 1 departed from Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, East Java, on Friday, October 22 in the morning to Reo Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

However, on Saturday, October 23, this cargo ship sank in a storm in the northern coast of Bali.

KM Liberty 1 had time to turn around but the ship's position was tilted. All crew members jumped into the sea to save themselves.

Six people were found safe on the afternoon of Monday, October 25. Those who survived were Jacobus Wolonterry (the skipper), David Makatita the 3rd machinist, Arif Budi Ruhul the helmsman, Muhamad Jufri the helmsman, Hanli Kiuk as the oil interpreter and Muhammad Ali.

Meanwhile, 9 people are still being searched, namely Dwi Harmianto as the first officer, Khoirul Hudha the second officer, Rizki Adi Tama as the second driver, Jeri Jepri as the helmsman.

Then Sebastian Saga oil interpreter, Rivaldy Refly M oil interpreter, Matheis Maoni Teo as attack, Petrus Rumahlewang as Opt Crane and Hadiq Zain as chef.

"Search efforts will resume tomorrow morning in accordance with the predetermined search and rescue operation plan," said Darmada.
