TransJakarta Bus Stopped At Busway Stop, Hit From Behind Until Driver Dies

JAKARTA - The Transjakarta bus accident that occurred on Jalan MT Haryono in the direction of Cawang, East Jakarta claimed three lives, the Transjakarta bus driver and two passengers. The other passengers suffered minor injuries.

"Initial information was that there were 30 injuries, and 3 people died. But until now we are still collecting data, how many are seriously injured, how many are minor injuries," said Kombes Sambodo to reporters, Monday, October 25.

Dirlantas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the accident began when a Transjakarta bus was dropping passengers at the Cawang Ciliwung Bus Stop.

"Then another vehicle (a Transjakarta bus) hit from behind a vehicle that was (stopping) at the bus stop," he explained.

The front part of the Transjakarta Jakarta bus that hit from behind looks wrecked. Likewise, the condition of the back of the Transjakarta bus which was stopped at the Cawang Ciliwung Bus Stop.

"One person who died at the scene was the driver of the vehicle (Transjakarta bus) that hit him from behind," he said.

Sambodo said the three people who died were taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, East Jakarta. Meanwhile, 30 other injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.

"All of the victims who died are at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, for the injured victims, we have pushed some to the nearest hospital," he said.
