JAKARTA - Video footage of the cyclist's cell phone snatching on Jalan Sudirman, border area of Tanah Abang and Setiabudi, Jakarta, has gone viral on Instagram social media.

The two perpetrators who used the motorbike were clearly recorded as having stalked the cyclist victim from behind. After the path was broken, the two perpetrators immediately took the cyclist's cellphone which was placed in the victim's back shirt pocket.

The video immediately went viral on Instagram. In fact, the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Riza Patria, also responded to the incident of cell phone theft that happened to a cyclist.

"So everyone must be careful now. Now, pickpockets, thieves, use various means and opportunities. So we ask everyone to be careful," said the Deputy Governor, Saturday, October 23.

The Deputy Governor of DKI is aware that the impact of the current pandemic in Jakarta has increased the unemployment rate. For this reason, the rise of street crime is the result of existing social problems.

"Indeed, currently during the pandemic, I'm sorry, there is an increase in unemployment. There are also social problems, so it is possible for people to look for ways to obtain material in a way that is not good. We ask them (the perpetrators) to do things which is commendable not to be done again," he said.

While confirmed separately, Tanah Abang Metro Police Chief AKBP Singgih denied that the incident occurred in his area. According to him, the incident occurred in the Setiabudi area, South Jakarta. His party has checked the crime scene and made sure the area of the incident did not enter Tanah Abang.

"The incident happened just across from Intiland, entering the Setiabudi area, South Jakarta. And there was no report (of the victim) to the Tanah Abang (Polsek)," he told VOI.
