KENDARI - Police arrested a couple in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) for allegedly stealing a motorbike.

Kendari Deputy Chief of Police Kompol Alwi said the pair had the initials MAS (28) a man and M (21) a woman who stole a motorbike.

"The suspects MAS and M, who are dating, were arrested on October 13 at the Bondoala Police, Konawe Regency," said Kompol Alwi, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 15.

He explained that the two of them committed the theft of a motorbike on October 6 at the Agser inn on Jalan Laremba, Kadia Village, Kadia District, Kendari.

The stolen motorcycle was then sold with two intermediaries, namely R (35) and H (27) who were sold to a person with the initials MIL (23) without paperwork at a price of Rp. 3,300,000.

The two of them then resumed their action on October 11 at around 00.00 WITA on Jalan Wayong, Pondambea Village, Kadia District, Kendari and managed to overpower a motorbike.

"At the crime scene, the victim fell asleep in a chair, then suspect M entered the yard and took the ignition key which was stored on the table, then took the motorbike in the garage along with the mobile phone which was stored in the trunk of the motorbike," explained Alwi.

The suspects stole the motorbike with the intention of being used. Meanwhile, the mobile phone was pawned for Rp. 300,000.

The main suspects of this theft, namely MAS (21) and M (28) will be subject to Article 363 Paragraph (1), (3), (4) and Paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code regarding theft with aggravating the threat of a sentence of nine years in prison.

Meanwhile, the other three suspects, namely R (35), H (27), and MIL (23) were subject to Article 480 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code regarding detention, which carries a sentence of seven years in prison.
