KPU Makes Sure There Are No More Commissioner Involved In Corruption Cases

JAKARTA - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has ensured that it will no longer be entangled in corruption cases in the upcoming 2024 election.

This commission promised that the interim replacement bribery (PAW) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, which once ensnared its former commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan, would be the latest case.

"We don't want incidents like that to happen again at the KPU," said KPU chairman Ilham Saputra at the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, October 14.

For this reason, the KPU then went to the KPK to participate in the anti-corruption strengthening program for state administrators with integrity (PAKU Integrity). Ilham hopes that this program can strengthen the value of integrity and keep his staff away from corrupt behavior in the upcoming elections.

Moreover, from this program, the KPU will know the limits of corruption, so that in the future it is hoped that there will be no more entangled parties. "So it is explained what later becomes gratification. Then we relate it to our experience at the KPU regarding the potential for corruption," said Ilham.

Ilham also said that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) invited the pair of each official in the KPU in the program to strengthen the integrity. The couple's invitation was made to strengthen the family's anti-corruption attitude.

"Each one also brings a partner to understand each other so that there is no attempt or desire to commit a criminal act of corruption," he said.

Meanwhile, the KPK emphasized that the PAKU Integrity was carried out to educate state administrators, especially those related to elections, namely the KPU and Bawaslu to stay away from corrupt practices.

Present at the anti-corruption briefing or PAKU Integrity executive briefing was KPU Chair Ilham Saputra along with six KPU Members, Secretary-General, Main Inspector, Deputy for Administration, and Deputy for Technical Affairs.

Meanwhile, from Bawaslu, the Chairperson of Election Supervisory Body of the Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu) Abhan and four Bawaslu members, the Main Inspector, the Deputy for Technical Support, and the Deputy for Administrative Support were present. The first echelon officials were accompanied by their respective spouses.

In this activity, the Acting Deputy for Education and Community Participation of the KPK, Wawan Wardiana, the political sector has long been the focus of the institution. Various studies have also been conducted since 2012, including studies on political parties and election programs with integrity.

"As an institution authorized to organize elections, the KPK has also collaborated with the KPU and Bawaslu to encourage the prevention of corruption in the administration of elections and local elections," Wawan said in a written statement.

"Through this activity, the KPK hopes to provide anti-corruption reinforcement as a bulwark of integrity in carrying out its duties," he concluded.
