If There Was No Intelligence Information, Kendari Would Have Been Flooded With 126,200 Chinese Illegal Cigarettes

JAKARTA - Kendari Customs, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle illegal cigarettes from China. There are 126,200 sticks trying to be brought into this city.

Information on the illegal cigarette smuggling attempt was obtained from intelligence obtained on October 6, 2021, regarding the shipment of illegal cigarette packages through a domestic expedition delivery service to Kendari.

"The team from the Kendari Customs Supervision Unit followed up by taking action on October 7, 2021," said Head of Kendari Customs Denny Benhard Parulian, Wednesday, October 13.

From the results of the inspection of the goods, it was found that the package contained imported cigarettes with various brands from China which were not attached with excise stamps.

From the results of further inspection, he said, illegal cigarettes were found with a total of 126,200 sticks with an estimated value of approximately Rp. 225,898,000.

"From these violations, it is estimated that state losses from the excise sector, HT VAT, and Cigarette Tax are a total of Rp. 140,535,000," he said.

He emphasized that Kendari Customs would consistently continue to eradicate illegal cigarettes, both locally and imported.

"We really need support and participation from the community. Don't buy or sell illegal cigarettes. Let's fight illegal cigarettes together," said Denny as quoted by Antara.
