JAKARTA - The Russian army has made a name for itself in the international arena, by breaking another world record and entering the Guinness World Record Book.

Most recently, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday this week, Armed Forces Captain Denis Yakovlev set a new record in complex strength training using gymnastic bars.

The Russian Defense Ministry said Yakovlev carried out a total of 255 variations of the drill at once, spending nearly three hours at the bar.

"The record was registered by the official representative of the Guinness Book of World Records in Russia, Chief Editor Alexey Svistunov," the ministry quoted TASS as saying October 12.

Complex strength training begins with a person hanging from a bar. The exercise cycle includes pull ups, muscle-ups, to leg raises and a somersault. Exercises should be performed as much as possible without leaving the bar. Time for practice is not limited.

Previously, last year the Russian army also managed to break a world record, becoming the fastest in conquering the highest mountain in Europe, Mount Elbrus with an altitude of 5,642 meters above sea level, in just three hours.

Not only one, but two Russian soldiers at once broke the record in the 2020 Army Games, namely Yevgeny Makarov who posted a time of 3 hours 12 minutes and Vitaly Shkel with 3 hours 14 minutes.

The two Russian athletes broke the previous record of Polish athlete Andrzej Bargiel, who set a new long track record of 3 hours, 23 minutes set in August 2010.

"We have set a new time record for climbing Mount Elbrus," said Yevgeny Molchanov, who heads the Red Fox Elbrus Race.

Meanwhile, the current world record for climbing and descending Mount Elbrus is held by Swiss-Ecuadorian mountaineer Karl Egloff, who was able to climb and then descend the mountain in 4 hours 20 minutes and 45 seconds on 7 May 2017.
