Jakarta Inundated Tuesday, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government Plans Community Service On Sundays

JAKARTA - Heavy rains flushed Jakarta from the afternoon of Tuesday, December 17 until the afternoon, resulting in flooding and stagnant water in a number of locations. Seeing this incident, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has just planned to work voluntarily.

The community service will be carried out on Sunday, December 22nd. This community service will involve the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan and all levels of the DKI Regional Work Units (SKPD).

"The target is (a number of points) that become puddles," said DKI Regional Secretary Saefullah at City Hall, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, December 18.

Saefullah suspects that inundation and flooding can occur at a number of points in Jakarta because of the clogging of the water lines and water mouths. In addition, flooding can also be caused by problematic control tanks.

The facility will be explored later, so that if it rains in large discharges, the flood will not be repeated.

"Yesterday it was quite big, even though the duration was short, we don't know in the future there will be rain intensity like what the duration is. We also don't know so we anticipate it," said Saefullah.

For information, based on data from the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), there are 19 inundation spots that had appeared on various roads in the capital city.

The most inundation spots appear in South Jakarta, including Jalan Prof. Dr. Satrio, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Gatot Subroto, and Jalan Rasuna Said. The height varies from 10-20 cm to 10-40 cm.

BPBD DKI also noted that standing water had appeared in settlements in West Jakarta, to be precise in Rawa Buaya Village, Sukabumi Selatan Village, and Kota Bambu Utara Village. The water level varies from 20 cm to 100 cm.
