Construction Permit For 4 And 5 Star Hotels In Labuan Bajo Closed 2022, Moratorium Until 2030

KUPANG - The Managing Director of the Implementing Agency for the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority (BPOLBF) Shana Fatina said the permits for the construction of four and five-star hotels in Labuan Bajo, NTT will be closed. This is to support the G20 Summit in Labuan Bajo.

"The permit for hotel development in Labuan Bajo as of October 2022 will be closed and this is specifically for four-star hotels and above. This is a moratorium until 2030," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 12.

This was conveyed by him related to the preparation of Labuan Bajo to be the location of the northern event or "main event" and side event or "side event" welcoming the G20 Summit.

Shana said the closure permit was carried out to protect the "supply and demand" development of Labuan Bajo, so that there would be quality tourism and a healthy climate.

"Therefore, we are currently accelerating the increase in investment in four and five-star hotels to fill a minimum of 2000 decent rooms," he said.

However, if the permit is reopened, within six months the investor must immediately apply for the construction permit for the five-star hotel, otherwise, the permit will be revoked after six months.

According to data as of September 17, 2021, currently there are three units of four-star hotels in Labuan Bajo, then two five-star hotels, four units of three-star hotels, and two units of private resorts.

Although the construction permit for hotels with four stars and above will be terminated, the construction of three-star hotels and below is still permitted but managed by the Community Basis Tourism (CBT) or local entrepreneurs.

"This is in accordance with the mutual agreement between the NTT Provincial Government and the West Manggarai Regency Government," he said.
