JAKARTA - Head of the Selection Team for Candidates for Members of the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) for the term of 2022-2027, Juri Ardiantoro promised to work independently.

He admitted that he would conduct the selection process for the election organizers in a manner with integrity. Although, it is known that the jury was once one of the successful teams (timses) of Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin.

In 2019, the jury served as Deputy Director of Legal and Advocacy for the Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin National Campaign Team (TKN) for the last presidential election. Previously, the jury served as Chairman of the Indonesian KPU from 2016 to 2017.

"We all have the same commitment to work openly, transparently, and of course impartially, independently, to convince the public that we can work well as instructed by law," said the jury at a press conference at the Ministry of Home Affairs office, Tuesday. , October 12.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian ensured that the government would not interfere with the work of the KPU and Bawaslu Candidate Selection Teams.

"The Ministry of Home Affairs certainly does not interfere, does not intervene. The work of the selection team is an independent work," said Tito.

Tito hopes that whoever will be elected as a member of the KPU and Bawaslu in the next five years will be able to carry out his job as an election organizer. As is well known, they will hold the 2024 Simultaneous Elections, starting from the election of candidates for president-vice president, DPR, DPRD, DPD, to regional heads. Election preparations had already begun a year earlier.

"This may be a new experience for us. Because the workload is quite heavy, it certainly requires KPU and Bawaslu members who are physically and mentally healthy, strong under stress and others," said Tito.

"And, being able to make creative breakthroughs so that the 2024 election administration can be more efficient and shorter, so that the division of society is also not prolonged," he continued.

It is known that President Jokowi has chosen 11 names for the selection team for KPU-Bawaslu Candidates through Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 120/P of 2021.
