Jokowi Appreciated Cuts Quarantine Of Foreign Tourists To 5 Days, Momentum Of Resurrection After The Drop Of Foreign Tourist To Bali To 99 Percent

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the House of Representatives, Gde Sumarjaya Linggih, appreciated the government's plan to cut the self-quarantine period for travelers from abroad to Indonesia from eight to five days.

The reduction in the self-quarantine period also applies to foreign tourists who will visit Indonesia, including the island of Bali.

"I welcome the provisions for reducing the (independent) quarantine period for tourists who will visit Indonesia, and of course all flight routes in Bali", said Gde, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 8.

With the reduction in the self-quarantine period, Gde hopes that the level of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia will increase after it was stopped due to the implementation of the policy of implementing Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM).

Previously, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Bali decreased by 99.99 percent, said Gde.

"This is a positive step for the development of our economy, especially Bali. I hope that as soon as possible Bali can recover its tourism. Hopefully, COVID-19 can subside as we expected", he explained.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, after a limited meeting with President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday, October 7, said the government would reduce the self-quarantine period for travel from abroad to 5x24 hours.

"It has been decided (Indonesia) to be opened (for travelers from abroad), in the meeting discussed the quarantine period. With a situation like this, it will be closed and the position will be five days", said Airlangga.

According to the plan, Bali will begin to be visited by foreign tourists with the opening of Ngurah Rai International Airport starting October 14, 2021. During self-quarantine, tourists must self-quarantine and routinely carry out PCR tests.
