Cianjur Farmers Screaming Vegetable Prices Drop Due To Lack Of Buyers, Broccoli-Carrots Drop To IDR 5,000/Kg

CIANJUR - The Department of Cooperative Industry and Trade (Diskopreindagin) in Cianjur, West Java, noted that the price of vegetables in traditional markets in Cianjur declined due to the abundant supply. Meanwhile, the level of consumption in society declined sharply.

Head of Trade at the Cianjur Diskoperindag, Nana Rukmana, explained that the decline in vegetable prices also affected farmers who were forced to sell their harvests cheaply so as not to lose money.

"For example, the price of broccoli-type vegetables in the market fell to Rp. 3,000 per kilogram, which is usually sold at the farmer level up to Rp. 10,000 per kilogram," he explained in Cianjur, Wednesday, October 6.

His party also noted that a number of vegetables such as spinach, kale, leeks and celery fell by Rp. 2,000 per kilogram. For carrots and broccoli, which decreased by more than Rp. 5,000.

One of the farmers in Cipanas Sub-district, Busyoru (35), said that the low price of vegetables since the past week has made farmers lose money and sell their crops at low prices, such as watercress which is sold for Rp. 500 per kilogram.

"Previously, watercress could still be sold for Rp. 5,000 per kilogram, but the abundant harvest made prices fall, plus the market demand was reduced, so that some types of vegetables experienced a decline in prices," he said.

He hopes that vegetable prices will return to normal and that vegetable seeds and fertilizers or pesticides will be cheaper, so that the economy will continue to run smoothly.

Meanwhile, a vegetable trader at the Cianjur Main Market, Sumarni (34) said that a very striking decline in vegetable prices occurred for broccoli-type vegetables that had occurred in the last few weeks.

"Normally the price of broccoli is Rp. 10,000 per kilogram, but now it is only Rp. 5,000 per kilogram, if you buy it from farmers it is only Rp. 3,000 per kilogram. The price has fallen quite far because there are few buyers," he said.
