JAKARTA - Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, Said Aqil Siradj, appreciated President Joko Widodo for the successful COVID-19 vaccination in Indonesia.

Said Aqil said this after meeting Jokowi at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, October 6. Said said, Indonesia is in the fifth position of the country with the largest vaccination succession in the world.

"We give appreciation, we are happy, especially to the president, especially the successful vaccination, Indonesia is the fifth country that is successful in vaccination and is able to control the transmission of COVID-19," he said as quoted by Antara.

Vaccination has been a factor in controlling the trend of COVID-19 cases in recent times. Said, in particular, expressed his gratitude because santri, kiai, and all Islamic Boarding School residents have also received the vaccine.

Based on data from the COVID-19 Task Force as of Monday, October 5, the COVID-19 vaccination in Indonesia for the first dose of injection has been given to 94.9 million people, while the second dose of injection has been given to 53.6 million people.

In addition to vaccinations, in a meeting with President Jokowi, Said Aqil said he wanted to stay in touch, and at the same time report the results of the National Conference and the NU Grand Conference (Konbes) September 25-26 2021. He also reported to the President that NU would hold a Congress on December 23-25 2021.

The mechanism for holding the Congress in December 2021, Said said, would depend on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

"The president also has a bit of a question mark, is it possible to see the COVID-19 situation like this, especially in Lampung. We'll see later, on condition that we pay attention to health protocols and permits from the National Task Force (COVID-19 Handling) and Local Task Force," he said.
