Tourism Recovery Fund Corruption, Former Head Of Bali Buleleng Dispar Sentenced To 32 Months In Prison

DENPASAR - The panel of judges at the Denpasar Corruption Court, Bali, sentenced the former Head of the Buleleng Regency Tourism Office, Made Sudama Diana, to two years and eight months (32 months) in prison. He was proven to have corrupted the tourism economic recovery fund for 2020 due to COVID-19, worth IDR 738 million.

"In this case, the panel of judges led by Heriyanti has handed down a verdict in the PEN Fund corruption case at the Buleleng Regency Tourism Office, against the Head of the Service on behalf of I Made Sudama Diana for two years and eight months in prison, and a fine of Rp. 50 million subsidiary to imprisonment for four years. months," said Denpasar District Court Spokesperson, Gede Putra Astawa, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 5.

In this case, the defendant was sentenced to an additional penalty in the form of paying compensation of Rp. 7,989,416 million, a subsidiary of one year in prison.

The verdict received by the defendant was lighter than the prosecutor's request, which previously demanded the defendant to be in prison for 4 years and a fine of Rp. 50 million, subsidiary to six months in prison, as well as compensation for state losses of Rp.

Upon the decision, Diana admitted that she was thinking about it, the same thing was conveyed by the public prosecutor, who stated that she was thinking about it.

The defendant was charged with Article 3 of Law Number 20/2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31/1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) to 1 of the Criminal Code as stated in the Subsidiary Indictment of the Public Prosecutor.

Previously, in the indictment of the public prosecutor, this corruption case began when the government disbursed PEN funds for Buleleng tourism in the amount of Rp. 13 billion. Details of the funds are disbursed by 70 percent or around Rp. 9 billion for hotel-restaurants and about 30 percent or Rp. 3.8 billion for tourism recovery operations in Buleleng Regency.

The activities are technical guidance for restaurant employees, restaurants and tourism actors with a budget allocation of Rp. 870.700.000, Explore Buleleng Rp. 2.567.360.000 and construction of facilities and infrastructure of Rp. 372. 230,000.
