JAKARTA - Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, was hit by various hydrometeorological disasters on Wednesday, September 29 yesterday afternoon. These disasters range from floods, flash floods, strong winds, to landslides.
This disaster occurred due to very high rainfall accompanied by strong winds in some areas of Padang Pariaman. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that four people died as a result of the disaster.
"This incident caused the death toll as many as four people died due to landslides and five people were injured and approximately 72 people were evacuated," said Head of BNPB Disaster Data and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Thursday, September 30.
Abdul Muhari said that the flood in Padang Pariaman submerged 338 houses, 80 hectares of agricultural land, one worship facility and one education facility. The water level ranges from 75 to 200 centimeters.
Then, the impact of material damage due to strong winds caused 12 houses to be heavily damaged, 10 kiosks or stalls damaged and 30 motorcycles damaged.
In addition, there was also a fallen tree that hit the provincial road as a result of strong winds, disrupting traffic access from Minangkabau Airport to Padang Pariaman and causing congestion.
"The Rapid Response Team (TRC) of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Padang Pariaman Regency has carried out data collection at the scene and carried out active cleaning of materials due to fallen trees as well as evacuating residents together with the TNI, Polri and local residents," said Abdul Muhari.
The operator of the Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) of the Padang Pariaman Regency BPBD Andri Liska Putra said that currently affected residents were evacuating to a safer place at the house of their closest relatives or family.
"Until now, we are still actively evacuating residents to a safer place at the nearest family's house," said Andri.
Andri admitted that the Padang Pariaman Regency BPBD experienced problems in actively handling disasters. This is because evacuation equipment is limited and the condition of the area has many disaster points.
"We still use traditional tools such as carts, hoes and there is also a chainsaw. But we have coordinated with relevant agencies to support disaster management," he added.
