Airlangga's Reason For Choosing Lodewijk As Deputy Speaker Of The House Of Representatives To Replace Azis Syamsuddin

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Golkar Party Airlangga Hartarto chose Lt. Gen. (ret) Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus as his candidate for Deputy Speaker of the DPR replacing Azis Syamsuddin.

Airlangga directly submitted an application for approval from the DPR leadership PAW from the Golkar Party, namely the candidate for Deputy Chair of the DPR for Political and Security Coordinator (Korpolkam) to DPR Chair Puan Maharani at the DPR building, Wednesday, September 29.

Airlangga revealed a number of reasons for choosing Lodewijk to be the replacement for Azis Syamsuddin, who is now stumbling over a bribery case and is a KPK suspect.

"Of course, from a political party, in terms of seniority ranking, the number two is the secretary general. Second, Mr. Lodewijk is already in Commission I, one of which is the korpolkam," said Airlangga.

Airlangga emphasized that the decision had been communicated with all seniors of the Golkar Party and the discussion had been in process for quite a while.

"So it has been discussed with the chairman of the board of directors, Mr. Aburizal Bakrie, chairman of the expert council, Mr. Agung Laksono, chairman of the honorary board, Mr. Akbar Tandjung, and also the advisory board of Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan," he said.

In addition, he continued, it was also discussed in a limited daily session and in a plenary session. "So, various considerations have been accepted," he said.

Airlangga denied there was an internal turmoil in deciding Lodewijk to become the chairman of the DPR.

"No, there was a meeting yesterday, the name was a consensus meeting and yesterday was the revitalization of the management," he explained.

In addition, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy also expressed his concern about what happened to Azis Syamsuddin.

"Pak Azis has been elected to the DPR 4 times, so we hope he can become a big family. We will continue to help and we hope he can handle it with concentration," said Airlangga.
