The Clamor Of The PPATK Report Regarding The Money Laundering Case Through The Casino

JAKARTA - The Financial Transaction Analysis Reporting Center (PPATK) has revealed the modus operandi of regional heads who carry out money laundering through casinos or gambling establishments abroad. Money laundering through casinos has become a new mode that he has detected this year.

Responding to this, member of Commission III Jazilul Fawaid said that PPATK should have conveyed to law enforcers to get assistance in handling the case, if they are deemed incapable.

Moreover, he said, the PPATK conveyed this to the public through the media was inappropriate. Because, according to him, there would be uproar over someone's suspicion. In fact, it should be proven first.

"If PPATK cannot summon, report it to law enforcers who can call. Instead of making noise and suspicion among others, it would be wiser to do so," he said, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, 17 December.

Jazilul said, reflecting on the previous case, PPATK had also conveyed drug-related transactions, but there was no follow-up. Now, according to him, it is revealing another issue.

According to him, the principle law is presumption of innocence. It should be, he said, in handling a case finding, law enforcement officials should also prioritize it. By revealing it to the public, according to him, all were accusing each other.

"At that time, it was estimated that the drug transaction in one month was Rp. 5 trillion, nothing. Now targeting regional heads by involving casinos. Yes, just proceed if there are allegations that are not true. We respect everything. Previously, the Chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, hoped that the PPATK would report the findings to law enforcement so that the findings could be followed up. He considered, such problems should not be published directly to the public.
