Cases Of Mistreatment Of Prisoners, Ombudsman Investigation Into Tanjung Gusta Prison

MEDAN - The Ombudsman Representative for North Sumatra conducted an investigation into the Class 1 Penitentiary (Lapas) Tanjung Gusta Medan to explore cases of abuse of prisoners or correctional inmates (WBP).

"We conducted an investigation after we asked the head of the Tanjung Gusta Medan prison some time ago," said the Head of the Ombudsman Examination for the North Sumatra Representative, James Marihot, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 28.

During this activity, his party asked for information from victims of abuse and a number of witnesses involved in the case.

"Based on the agreement in the title of the case report that we need to ask for information from the abused detainee, the officer who tortured him, and other witnesses," he said.

James said he had not been able to convey the findings from the results of the investigation because his party was still investigating the case.

"Our findings have yet to be conveyed. We are still gathering evidence from the statements of the inmates who were persecuted and witnesses," he continued.

The mistreatment of an inmate at the Class IA Penitentiary Tanjung Gusta Medan has gone viral on social media (social media).

The video shows an inmate saying his colleague was beaten for not giving money to the officer while showing his colleague's bruised back due to alleged abuse.
