[VOI Discussion] Commission III DPR: Image Of The Police Depends On Traffic Units

JAKARTA - The good and bad image of the National Police in the eyes of the public depends on the personnel from the Traffic Unit (Satlantas). This is because they are members of the National Police who face the community the most every day.

This was revealed by a member of Commission III of the DPR RI, Muhammad Nasir Djamil. According to him, the traffic police are the police showcases. Thus, they are a reflection of all members of the Police.

According to him, if there are traffic members who do not comply with the rules, illegal fees or whatever is bad, then all police officers are considered bad.

"(The Traffic Unit) is a storefront. Before seeing the police as a whole, they see the Traffic police. If the Traffic police are still extortion, they are still looking for mistakes, then the perception of the police will be like that," Nasir said at the VOI discussion, Thursday, July 16th.

However, as time goes by and the system changes that continue, the bad stigma of the police has disappeared. Moreover, the existence of a breakthrough in the use of online prosecution methods has made police officers disappear by themselves.

Apart from traffic members, the police also reflect on the Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim). Because, those who take action against the perpetrators of the crime harshly. Not infrequently, when they are on duty witnessed by the public.

In fact, Nasir had mentioned the statement from the North Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Martuani Sormin, who asked Satreskrim members to act according to the rules without manipulating investigations and examinations.

"The function of Criminal Investigation should be continuously improved, monitored properly. (Currently) the appearance of the police is also better, far from the impression that the police were cruel, the police like to beat, torture and so on," concluded Nasir.
