Bad Influence On DPR And Parties, MKD And Golkar Urged To Quickly Handle Azis Syamsuddin Case

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Azis Syamsuddin, has been named a suspect in the bribery case for handling the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) case in Central Lampung Regency, after being forcibly picked up by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at his residence, Friday, September 24.

Based on this status, the Honorary Court of the Council (MKD) was asked to actively handle cases of alleged ethical violations by Azis Syamsudin. Including in the case of KPK investigators who helped the alleged corruption of the Mayor of Tanjungbalai.

"The MKD should not continue to take refuge in regulations that await court decisions until they have permanent legal force. If that is the basis for the MKD, then Azis Syamsudin's ethical case will drag on," said Esa Unggul University Political Communication Observer, M. Jamiluddin Ritonga, Sunday, 26 September.

According to Jamiluddin, the longer the MKD decides on Azis Syamsuddin's case, the bigger the impact on the DPR RI. In fact, he said, the case involving the deputy chairman of the Golkar Party itself will also affect the Beringin party.

Jamiluddin explained that there would be two impacts on the DPR RI if the handling of the Azis Syamsuddin case dragged on. First, as the chairman of the DPR RI, this case is expected to affect the performance of this respectable institution.

"There is a vacancy that handles the duties and functions of Azis Syamsudin as deputy chairman of the DPR RI. This in itself weakens the realization of the legislative, budgetary and supervisory functions," explained Jamiluddin.

Second, he continued, is of course directly related to the image of the DPR in the eyes of the public. If the case of Azis Syamsuddin takes longer to be resolved, it is feared that the public will judge the DPR to be getting worse.

"As for the Golkar Party, of course the Azis Syamsudin case will also be able to affect the party's image. This bad image may harm the Golkar Party in the presidential and legislative elections in 2024," said Jamiluddin.

Therefore, according to him, the DPR and Golkar must act quickly so that Azis Syamsudin's factor does not affect the two institutions too much.

The DPR leadership, Jamiluddin said, needed to ask the MKD to immediately resolve the alleged ethical case of Azis Syamsudin in a fair and open manner.

"Only with an open meeting, the public will trust the MKD's decision. Otherwise, the public is feared that they will distrust the DPR even more. This will further affect the bad reputation and image of the DPR RI," said Jamiluddin.

For Golkar, he added, it is appropriate to evaluate Azis Syamsudin's position as Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI. And replace them with Golkar cadres in the DPR who are quite capable.

"If this is done by Golkar, the worse impact on the party can be reduced. I hope this is the best thing to do so that Golkar remains comfortable facing the 2024 election," concluded Jamiluddin.
