Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Asks NU To Play A Global Level

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, as Mustasyar of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, asked NU to start taking on a role at the international level with the principles of ukhuwah Islamiyah, ukhuwah insaniyah and ukhuwah wathaniyah.

This was conveyed by Vice President Ma'ruf while attending the National Conference (Munas) of Alim Ulama and the NU Grand Conference (Konbes) in Jakarta, Saturday, September 25.

"It's time for us to take a global role. Many expect NU's role at the global level because NU has a principle called ukhuwah insaniyah, in addition to ukhuwah Islamiyah and wathaniyah," said Ma'ruf Amin at the vice president's official residence in Jakarta, quoted by Antara.

The role of NU at the national level, continued the Vice President, has received recognition from many parties, especially those who contribute to creating harmony and peace.

"Indeed, the role of NU nationally, which is considered to have a major contribution in creating harmony and peace, has attracted many parties," he added.

Therefore, in the midst of the ongoing conflict in a number of countries, Ma'ruf Amin asked the Nahdliyin to get involved by using a religious and humanitarian approach to morality.

"The NU principles are needed when our world still has many conflicts everywhere and cannot be resolved, either through political diplomacy or military channels," he said.

The National Conference of Alim Ulama and the NU Konbes were held at the Grand Sahid Hotel Jakarta on Saturday and Sunday, September 26, inviting 250 administrators and members to discuss domestic issues in the fields of health, politics, law and security (polhukam), education and people's welfare.

The second highest forum after the NU Congress will provide recommendations to the Government regarding various issues facing Indonesia.
