Often Accused Of Protecting Anies Baswedan, Novel Baswedan: It's Not Ordinary Intervention At KPK

JAKARTA - The inactive Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Anies Baswedan asserted that he had never tried to protect his cousin, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.

This was conveyed by him to answer a number of accusations against him which were often called providing protection to Anies.

This issue was widely heard amidst the investigation into allegations of corruption in land acquisition in Munjul, Pondok Ranggon, East Jakarta, where former Director of Perumda Pembangunan Sarana Jaya, Yoory Corneles, is a suspect.

"The KPK is not used to such interventions. So it is impossible for this to happen," said Novel in an interview snippet at the Mata Najwa program quoted Friday, September 24.

Moreover, this kind of thing cannot be done because each case handling task force has its own task. So they won't know what they're doing.

"KPK has a division of tasks. During the investigation, there are divisions, each of which does not know each other's cases," said Novel, who is included in the 57 employees who will be dismissed at the end of September.

Furthermore, he said that the protection many people had accused him of was also impossible because of the integrity he had always held. Moreover, Novel feels that he has no interest whatsoever in protecting Anies.

Not only that, Novel ensures that anyone who is involved or needs to be investigated in handling a corruption case by the KPK will certainly be investigated. "Even if it's not investigated, people will know at the trial. It's (the trial, ed) open," he said.

"So if there are people who want to cover up the investigation process in such ways, it's useless. Because in the investigation everything will be clearly revealed," he concluded.
